Section – 22. Safety Committee and safety officers.

(1) The appropriate Government may, by general or special order, require any establishment or class of establishments to constitute a Safety Committee in the prescribed manner. Such Committee shall consist of representatives of the employer and workers engaged in the establishment, and the number of worker representatives shall not be less than that of the employer. The worker representatives shall be chosen in the manner and for the purposes as may be prescribed by the appropriate Government.

(2) In every establishment which is—
(a) a factory wherein five hundred or more workers are ordinarily employed; or
(b) a factory carrying on a hazardous process wherein two hundred fifty or more workers are ordinarily employed; or
(c) a building or other construction work wherein two hundred fifty or more workers are ordinarily employed; or
(d) a mine wherein one hundred or more workers are ordinarily employed,

the employer shall appoint such number of safety officers, possessing prescribed qualifications and performing prescribed duties, as may be specified by the appropriate Government.
